St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church was founded in 1920, and our 100th Anniversary was marked last year. Because of the Covid19 pandemic, we delayed the celebration to 2021 and in May 2022, a culminating celebration was a held with premieres of commissioned musical pieces and the return of Pastor Emeritus Gary Erickson as guest preacher of the day.
The comprehensive and fascinating Anniversary Book “The VOICE: St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on the 100th Anniversary” has arrived! The chronology contains more than 400 historic photographs, as well as profiles of pastoral leaders, interviews with long-time and recent member families, name index for genealogy research, and more than 2,000 excerpts from The Voice of St. Matthew’s newsletter and other sources. The history of St. Matthew’s, from 1920 to 2020, is revealed decade by decade in a rich story arc that draws from long-established faith traditions and reaches toward our changing, modern world. We hope to inspire you and guarantee that you will find out something new. Whether you are a recent member, a lifetime member, or have a keen interest in local history, this book will be an important addition to your library for years to come. We wish to thank an anonymous donor for supporting this centennial project.
